LET US CANCEL THE PAPAL VISIT TO THE SYNAGOGUE

Let us cancel interfaith dialogue!

The upcoming Papal visit to the Synagogue of Rome is an insult to Jews, Roma gypsies, to gay people, to women and to all who were massacred in the Shoah and during the course of the centuries of Christianity. The offensive distortion of memory, the praise of silence and the minimizing of the meaning of the Shoah are an offense and violation of the human rights of all victims.

Benedict XVI has planned a true campaign for Christianity’s appropriation of both Memory and the Shoah and is acting knowingly and at a time of its choosing to prepare for his visit to the Synagogue of Rome. The clear intent of the Pope is to enter the Synagogue as a Pope King and Pope on a triumphal march surrounded by the hymns of praise of the conventional thinkers and the opportunists. As the founder of a new conservative current of negationism and historical revisionism, the Pontiff aims to reduce the Shoah to an event that - however serious it was - happened only by chance. For the Pope, the Shoah must remain forever disconnected from Christianity and, therefore, from historical anti-Semitism

The Pope intends to manipulatively drag anyone he can into this new line of thought, even Jews so as to squash them and isolate them in their memory.

On Saturday, December 19th, a message was sent on a day that the whole world can listen in but not the Jews, even though it was a message primarily for the Jews. The news came just before the Christmas celebration when Christians are not paying attention because of their preparations for the holiday. It came less than one month before the visit to the Synagogue of Rome when invitations, preparations and furnishings have been determined. And it was just a few hours after the theft of the sign at Auschwitz that meant an offense and a violation of memory. Just then the message arrived like a bolt out of the blue when Benedict XVI made known the reasoning behind the scandalous decree about the heroic virtues of Pius XII, the Pope of the Shoah:

“Pope Pius XII Eugenio Pacelli worked to console displaced and persecuted persons and he had to dry his tears of sorrow in weeping for the innumerable victims of the war” He often acted in a secret and in a silent way precisely because of the situation in which he found himself in a complex historical time. He had the intuition that only in this way could he avoid an outcome that was worse and thus save the greatest possible number of Jews.”

A violent act of provocation fashioned with artistic flourish!

Not happy, with such a calculated maneuver, faced with the Jewish reaction of astonishment, on December 21st he recalled that “the visit to Yad Vashem (May 11 2009) created a disconcerting encounter with the cruelty of human guilt and an encounter with the hatred of a blinded ideology. This ideology with no justification whatsoever sent millions of human beings to their death and with this, in final analysis, had decided to banish God as well, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the God of Jesus Christ.” With a stagecraft worthy of the most stupefying opportunistic self-transformation, Christianity with its “God of Jesus Christ” – original cause and principal force responsible for the Shoah, the apex of 20 centuries of Christian persecution in Europe, becomes suddenly a victim. Is it still necessary for us to repeat that the blinded ideology that over time has caused millions of innocent victims is none other than Christianity? Need we repeat yet again that there is no anti-Semitism that does not sink its roots into Christianity?

In the same speech the Pontiff hopes that in the Church, a place can be created where atheists and agnostics – even if living amidst obscurities of various types – can pray to an unknown God in order to enter into relation with the one true Christian God. And so he removes identity and memory from atheists and agnostics, many of whom - from heretics, infidels, freemasons and communists - lost their lives in persecutions from the Inquisition to the Shoah.

With the duplicity of the perfect opportunistic self-transformer, on the one hand the Pope celebrates interfaith dialogue, plans the visit to the Synagogue of Rome, and goes to the Museum of the Shoah in Jerusalem. But on the other hand, the same Pope reintroduces the Good Friday prayer for the conversion of the Jews "Oremus et pro Iudaeis,” revokes the excommunication of the anti-Semite Williamson who denies the Holocaust and gives the go ahead for the beatification process for Pius XII. Nothing is left to chance. Even the visit on January 17th falls on a day in which the Christian persecution of the Jews of the ghetto of Rome is recalled.

On the subject of Pope Pius XII, the papacy establishes a Committee of study comprised of representatives of both the Jewish world and the Vatican to look into the case. But then the decision is made in unilateral fashion and the papacy dictates conditions and results. By avoiding and denying the requests of the Committee with a decree signed by the Pope himself, today Pope Pius XII is a hero, a model for new generations, a “venerable one” ready for sainthood.

With an operation of “divide and conquer” he creates discord and confusion among the Jews themselves. Father Peter Gumpel - the one who read the report promoting the beatification of Pius XII - declared “First of all, I would like to say that not all of the Jewish world is against beatification, but only a part of it. I am thinking for example of American Jews who in the majority are grateful for what Pius XII did to save the greatest number of human lives."

The reality is that in America the survivors of the Shoah and their descendants have decided to band together and form a group that will pressure Pope Benedict XVI to stop the process of beatification. If he were to become a saint, it would be a tragedy for Jewish-Christian relations. The reality is that Pius XII is one of the persons who is principally responsible for the Shoah. Only with an operation of mystification is it possible to celebrate the heroic virtues of Pius XII. Silence and secrecy during the Shoah are certainly not an act of heroism and they only signify corrupt connivance and complicity.

Master and King of the Christian west, Pius XII was an example for all those who closed their eyes in the face of the deportation of the Jews, Rom, homosexuals, political prisoners and dissidents. He knew of the exterminations taking place and he could have taken responsibility, mobilized Christians to stop the massacres, risk his skin, had he been a hero.

But perhaps he was just one of those miserable Christians, completely lacking in humanity just as Pier Paolo Pasolini wrote with admirable synthesis:

“You knew it, to sin doesn’t mean to do evil:/ to not do good, this is the meaning of sinning./ How much good you could have done! And you did not do it:/ there has never been a greater sinner than you”

The decree on Pius XII is not an internal question of the Catholic church as they would like us to believe. It is as if one were to say that pedophilia is an internal problem of the church that has nothing to do with the children who are attacked and violated. Or that anti-Semitism has nothing to do with Jews and that the accusation of deicide does not involve the victims of that wicked slander. Or even that the crimes of the executioners do not have anything to do with the victims. It is obvious that if one is a member of the Committee that must judge Pius XII the question is not an internal one.

Even in the realm of official diplomacy the formula “internal question” is rarely used. Maybe one use is when a state visit is about to occur and if one cannot escape doing so.

But the visit of the Pope to the Synagogue is not a state visit. Wasn’t it supposed to be, rather, the seal of the restarting of the Jewish-Christian interfaith dialogue, the one implored by many without benefits?

We can now wonder why there should be insistence on participating in study sessions and dialogues with such an unreliable partner. Interfaith dialogue leads to the beatification of the Pope of the Shoah with the humiliation of the victims and without the supplement of historical investigation, requested and agreed upon but rendered superfluous by the new decree.

“When historians will have the means of analyzing calmly the papers that are locked up in the archives they will understand better the greatness of this Pope. The Holy See did all that it could do.” With these paternalistic and arrogant words, Cardinal Cottier, theologian of the Casa Pontificia and colleague of Ratzinger, makes clear the intention of making the Jews shut their mouths and swallow the bitter pill.

For more that half a century, some speak of the “presumed silence” of Pope Pius XII, but silence is the only true truth and the judgment of the Jews remains negative and unchanged: the Jews have no need of archives or documents that if they remain secret must not exist, unless someone would have in mind yet more falsification.

The only uncontestable truth is that of the innocent victims, those who were killed only because of who they were. Their repeated murder remains the only irrefutable judgment on their executioners who, even if masked, cannot escape their responsibilities.

This beatification is not an internal question for the church. Who supports such a position is neither a diplomat or a minister and, in this regard, must evaluate the action of the Pope for what it is: yet another attempt of the Christians to test yet again their victims and the Jews, to attack them, humiliate them until they assimilate completely.

Pius XII carried out immoral actions and every one has the right and the duty to express his or her own public opinion. To consider these actions as heroic is a repugnant form of apologetics. They are a source of guilt, a violation of the human rights of Jew and of all of the victims of the Shoah.
